Fox News host Andrea Tantaros on Wednesday applauded Republican presidential candidates who have admitted to smoking marijuana in recent days, saying she would prefer a former pot smoker to “some uptight, staid geek who doesn’t have their finger on the pulse of America.”

The panel on the show “Outnumbered” was discussing whether Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and former Florida governor Jeb Bush (R) had damaged their presidential prospects by recently admitting to smoking marijuana in their youth.

Tantaros said she thought the opposite was true.

“I’m one of those people who hears the candidates be honest — because, one, I love honesty, because I think it’s rare in politics — but also, I like the candidate a little bit more. I like that they’re not some uptight, staid geek who doesn’t have their finger on the pulse of America,” Tantaros said.

She continued: “A lot of people smoke weed! It’s just a reality. So I don’t think it’s that big of a deal.”

Tantaros hasn’t always been so positive about drug use, having mocked “stoners” and criticized President Obama’s past drug use.
