Amazon took a huge swipe at rival Apple’s iTunes and iTunes Match on Thursday, releasing Amazon AutoRip, a new service that automatically creates cloud-stored digital copies of songs and albums users have purchased in CD form from Amazon going back to 1998.
The service works for new CD purchases, too. The digital copies are found in Amazon’s Cloud Player and can be played on a variety of devices, from any desktop computer with Internet access to Amazon’s Kindle Fire to even the competing Apple iPhone and Android phones and devices, through Amazon’s Cloud Player apps.
