Mike Allen, Politico’s chief political reporter, plans to leave the company next month and relinquish his popular “Playbook” newsletter, The New York Times reported Sunday.
Allen will be succeeded at “Playbook” after July 11 by two Politico writers, Jake Sherman and Anna Palmer, according to the Times, which wrote up the announcement in Allen’s signature newsletter style. Daniel Lippman, who has assisted Allen since 2014, will also continue to help craft the newsletter.
Allen is departing the company about four months earlier than expected. In January he announced he planned to leave the company in November, The Washington Post reported. He’s set to work on an unspecified business venture with Politico co-founder Jim VandeHei and colleague Roy Schwartz.
The NYT did a big story on this too. Why does the press think everyone is interested in these inside baseball stories about the incestuous DC press corp. Especially at Tiger Beat on The Potomac as Charlie Pierce calls Politico.
So if you were wondering if his many ethical lapses over the years were condoned or even encouraged by his employer, now you know. Yes. Yes, they were.
Why does MSSportsMedia assume everyone is a Yankees fan?
Because the press are the consumers of his column. Everyone they know reads it every day in their ‘in box’ as soon as they wake up. It never occurs to them that they are in a bubble.
Can’t stand that guy. He’s a glorified rightwing partisan hack. Whenever I’ve seen him speak on TV I think, something’s off-kilter with this guy. He’s just an odd duck. Maybe he’ll go work for TMZ. That’s really where he belongs.
Not going to be reporting on the GOP’s rainbows & puppies presidential election?
