A police officer in Madison, Ala. was arrested on Thursday on an assault charge for allegedly tackling a 57-year-old Indian grandfather to the ground while questioning him, NBC News reported.

Officer Eric Parker, who originally wasn’t identified by police, reportedly turned himself in on Thursday. He was charged with third-degree assault and may also be fired for the incident based on the recommendation of Madison Police Chief Larry Muncey, according to NBC.

Muncey rebuked Parker for the incident.

“I found that Officer Eric Parker’s actions did not meet the high standards and expectations of the Madison City Police Department,” Muncey told NBC.

The incident, which occurred on Feb. 6, left Sureshbhai Patel partially paralyzed. Patel was visiting from India to help his son and daughter-in-law take care of their young son.

Two dashcam videos of the alleged assault were released Thursday along with audio of the original 911 call that police were responding to and which precipitated the confrontation, NBC reported.

The alleged assault is also reportedly being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

  1. Amazing, now if something happens more than this, I’ll smile

  2. OMFG…no provocation, nothing. And then the way they treat him as he’s obviously exhibiting signs of either/both head trauma and/or spinal trauma. They shouldn’t have moved him a fucking inch and should’ve called in an ambulance instantly. These fuckers ALL belong in prison…at least the perp does. The other two are clearly completely and utterly incompetent as far as first aid and being “first responders” goes and they need to be suspended and forced to perform additional training. Their treatment of him while injured makes them the very last people I’d ever want showing up on a 911 injury call.

If you think this incident, with the gratuitous tripping/body slam to make a “point”, is an exception to the rule, you’re not paying attention.

  3. I suggest emailing the police chief larry muncey at: larry.muncey@madisonal.gov. I did. Tell him what you think about his officer and training.

  4. Yeah, well, you know those Indian grandfathers can be real badasses. WTF!? Course his skin tone suggests a thuggish tendency, so best show him who’s boss. These cops need to experience some real pain themselves - from the bench!

  5. The individual who placed the 911 call in the first place should be given thousands of hours of community service taking care of the victim.
