People close to former Vice President Al Gore, who won the popular vote in the 2000 election, have reportedly been discussing whether he could make another run for the White House, according to a report on Thursday by BuzzFeed.

The insiders have been “figuring out if there’s a path financially and politically,” according to the news website.

One anonymous Democrat told BuzzFeed the discussions felt “more real” than in the past. But a former Gore advisor, Roy Neel, told the website that a 2016 campaign was “extremely unlikely.”

The news outlet noted that Gore has “not made any formal or informal moves toward running” and did not reply to a BuzzFeed email asking him about the supposed discussions.
