The gunman and one other victim died after a shooting at a VA health clinic in El Paso, Texas, officials confirmed Tuesday night.

Maj. Gen. Stephen Twitty, the commanding general as Fort Bliss, said in a news conference said that staff at the clinic and military hospital are safe.

“Everything is under control and there is no immediate threat to Fort Bliss or the local community,” Twitty said, according to the Washington Post.

Officials put the William Beaumont Army Medical Center and associated VA clinic on lockdown after reports of an active shooter Tuesday afternoon.

Twitty did not provide details about the identity of the shooter or the victim. A spokesman for Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-TX) confirmed to El Paso station earlier Tuesday evening to KVIA and CNN that the victim was a doctor at the clinic.

While the Associated Press originally reported that the shooting occurred at the William Beaumont Army Medical Center, news outlets later reported that the shooting was at the VA clinic next to WBAMC.

Officials do not yet have details on the motive of the shooter. The FBI will lead the investigation into the shooting.
