At only 14 years old, Andy Zhang has become the youngest qualifier for the US Open in the sport’s history. Zhang, a Chinese native who now lives in Florida, qualified for the tournament on Monday when Paul Casey withdrew.
Zhang began playing golf when he was six, introduced to the sport by his father, and he moved to the US at the age of 10 to pursue the sport. Not only has he not yet entered high school, but Zhang has qualified for the tournament one year younger than Tiger Woods was when he initially attempted, and failed, to qualify.
