We’re hiring a front end web designer to join our tech team. See listing after the jump.

TPM is hiring a junior web designer to work out of our New York City (midtown) office. TPM produces fast-paced, iterative news and we are seeking a designer to help shape the look and feel of the site and collaborate with our sales team to deliver ad creatives for our advertisers sponsors.

Your role will be to improve our readers’ experience by designing elegant interfaces and to help develop a strong and consistent visual brand identity. Working with our sales team you’ll develop highly effective and compelling ad creatives (HTML5/CSS3) to both improve the reader experience and drive revenue. In collaboration with our developers you’ll help craft HTML markup and templates for our CMS and develop/maintain beautiful stylesheets. Above all you’ll work to solidify and shape TPM’s visual identity into something striking and distinct.

This is a junior position but one with substantial opportunity for advancement and potential to shape our high-traffic site’s design vision over the year’s to come.

What You’ll Do

Develop the look and feel of new products through wireframes, mockups, prototypes, specifications, and final deliverables

Work with sales and development teams to create engaging native ad solutions

Maintain and refine the existing stylesheets and markup templates used by our internal CMS

Help shape the TPM brand by developing a set of internal company identity and style guidelines

Manage multiple deadlines for simultaneous projects, keeping your teammates informed of milestones and decisions

What You’ll Need

An attention to detail, empathy for the reader experience and a strong desire to improve it. You are never content with the status quo.

A drive to deliver modular and well-structured HTML/CSS for consistent use by a team of developers.

An aesthetic that matches TPM’s signature brand of fast paced, iterative journalism. We’re small but strong, tenacious and bold. Prior knowledge of and appreciation for TPM’s history is a big plus.

An understanding of modern HTML5/CSS3 best practices and how they relate mobile and tablet devices. Javascript experience is not necessary but some knowledge of basic scripting techniques and patterns is a plus.

A solid understanding of typographic principles and how to optimize for mobile and tablet readers.

What Will Qualify You

You will either have worked at another website in a similar capacity, had substantial experience doing web design work in a college context or substantial post-collegiate training.
