RIYADH, Saudi Arabia (AP) — Saudi Arabia has suspended all flights at a southern airport along the border with Yemen, after the area was shelled by Yemen’s Shiite rebels.
The kingdom’s national carrier, Saudia, says flights to and from the town of Najran in the south were suspended on Tuesday until further notice.
Yemeni tribal leaders say Shiite rebels, known as Houthis, shelled the border area of Najran from inside Yemen. The elders spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the media.
The border area has been a flashpoint for Saudi-Houthi clashes amid a Saudi-led airstrikes campaign targeting the rebels in Yemen.
Last Thursday, border clashes left three Saudi troops and dozens of rebels dead.
