The International Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission is an organization that specializes in gender, sexuality and human rights globally. A champion of social and economic justice, Stern has previously worked at Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International and the National Gay & Lesbian Task Force, among other organizations. She currently serves on the board of the International Bar Association’s Committee on LGBT Rights and teaches at Columbia University.

TPM’s Managing Editor, David Kurtz, is in attendance for today’s oral arguments at the Supreme Court in what is likely to be the decisive case for marriage equality nationwide – and perhaps by extension LGBT equality writ large.

Elizabeth (Liza) Goitein on Wednesday at 1 p.m. Eastern will join The Hive (sub req) to answer your questions about national security, including how Congress should reform NSA surveillance.

Goitein co-directs the Brennan Center for Justice’s Liberty and National Security Program. Before coming to the Brennan Center, Liza served as counsel to U.S. Senator Russell Feingold, Chairman of the Constitution Subcommittee of the Senate Judiciary Committee. As counsel to Sen. Feingold, Liza handled a variety of liberty and national security matters, with a particular focus on government secrecy and privacy rights.

Her writing has been featured in major newspapers including The New York Times, The Washington Post, Boston Globe, the San Francisco Chronicle, Wall Street Journal and the Philadelphia Inquirer, as well as prominent outlets such as Roll Call, the National Law Journal, and the Huffington Post.

Mark Schmitt joins The Hive today to chat about the early reform rhetoric we are already hearing regarding 2016 (sub req), his recent paper on a new framework for democratic reform and any other topics you are interested in. Schmitt is the director of the program on political reform at the New America Foundation — in this capacity he develops new approaches to understanding and reforming the market for political power.

A prominent writer on politics and public policy, with experience in government, philanthropy and journalism, he is also a columnist for The New Republic and a leading voice on political reform, budget and tax policy, and social policy.
