When the candidates were going down the line naming their first priority if elected, only Pete Buttigieg said democracy reform. In one sense he would be taking a page out the Republican playbook (albeit a playbook that wants to take the country in the opposite direction). When Republicans started taking full control of states after the 2010 wave, often a top priority for those state houses was passing restrictive voting laws like voter ID. As voting rights become a more prominent issue in Democratic politics, will other candidates besides Buttigieg also learn that lesson?
