Biden and the Times

The Times has a lengthy piece out on Joe Biden, the 94 crime bill and the larger story of mass incarceration. It’s hard not to read the piece, especially the lede, and not think the Times has simply given up any pretense in its coverage of Biden’s campaign. The piece gets much better as it goes, but deep into the piece where most readers likely won’t even get to. The first half of the article can easily read as Joe Biden created mass incarceration and he created it with a group of segregationist senators in their 80s who were his best friends. That’s not much of an exaggeration. Read the piece.

But this gets at a larger point, a larger gap in the current political conversation about crime, incarceration and race.
