White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders told reporters Monday that officials are “reviewing” likely Federal Reserve Board pick Stephen Moore’s comments about women’s athletics and voting.
“Certainly we’re reviewing those comments and when we have an update on that front we’ll let you know,” she said, per CNN.
Moore wrote a column for the National Review in the early 2000s, where he went on sexist screeds about women’s sports (female athletes wanting equal pay for “inferior work”) and on women voting after his wife supported a Democrat (“women are sooo malleable! No wonder there’s a gender gap”).
He has so far stood firm that he still wants the gig, but said last week that he’d bow out if he became a political “liability.”
This is the first time cracks have really showed in the administration’s support for Moore, and the wavering comes just weeks after other likely pick Herman Cain took himself out of contention due to a lack of Republican support and what he saw as an insufficient salary ($183,100).

Advice for potential officeholders: when you are a dick, in public, then people might say “you’re a dick”.
Stephen Moore hits from the women’s tees.
“We’re working on an excuse for his behavior and we’ll let you know when we’ve decided on one.”
