White House officials told the Washington Post in an article published late Monday that President Donald Trump was only joking about extending his term another two years.
Trump retweeted a post by evangelical leader and Liberty University chief Jerry Falwell on Saturday declaring that Trump should have an extra two years added to his term as “pay back” for “time stolen” by special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation.
Now unnamed White House officials and people in Trump’s inner circle insist that POTUS wasn’t being serious.
This wouldn’t be the first time Trump “joked” about forcing extra time into his presidency. During a rally almost exactly a year ago, he suggested a similar “extension for the presidency.”
