Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) responded to reports on Thursday night that then-Department of Homeland Security head John Kelly called her “an impolite arrogant woman,” saying neither Kelly nor Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) could “shut me up.”

In a fundraising email sent late Thursday evening, Warren explained that at the time she had been trying to get Kelly on the phone to discuss the illegal detainment of those impacted by the travel ban at the Boston Logan Airport. Kelly, according to Warren, brushed off her concerns and rebuffed her requests for a direct phone number to reach him in the future. Kelly apparently sent the email after that phone call, she said.

“What an impolite arrogant woman. She immediately began insulting our people accusing them of not following the court order, insulting and abusive behavior towards those covered by the pause, blah blah blah,” Kelly reportedly wrote, according to emails obtained by BuzzFeed.

“‘Blah blah blah.’ That’s all he had to say when he was called out for breaking the law and destroying lives,” she wrote Thursday. “And I don’t know about John Kelly – but there are some men who can only hear ‘blah blah blah’ whenever a woman’s talking. One of his aides wrote back, ‘Too bad Senate Majority Leader McConnell couldn’t order her to be quiet again!'”

“Clever,” she continued. “Well, Mitch McConnell can’t shut me up – and neither can John Kelly. (He can’t even get Donald Trump off Twitter, and as far as I can tell, that was his main job description when he took on the role of White House Chief of Staff).”

Kelly’s email was sent just one day after McConnell infamously shoved Warren off the Senate floor during her speech opposing Attorney General Jeff Sesssions’ nomination. McConnell then criticized her for persisting and unintentionally created Warren’s most famed tagline.

  1. This is a great response but now you need to get on TV and say it. Fundraising emails are not a big enough venue for this.

  2. Kinda OT but worth a rejoinder:

Hard to imagine innit? Women get killed by abusive boyfriends/husbands … and she thinks she’s Thee most bullied person on the planet. Ummm, no. Bullied…very likely, but the most bullied? Hardly. Yes she is married to an abusive man. But it is clearly her choice to stay in that situation. If she has a lick of sense she would’ve socked away a goodly pile of cash somewhere that donnie cannot get to it and have on hand a packed bag for herself and Barron.
But no, she wants to play victim.

  3. She needs the equivalent of giving those two a kick in the nuts,
