NBC News announced on Wednesday morning that the network will be hosting a town hall with President Donald Trump on the same day and time Democratic candidate Joe Biden is scheduled to hold a town hall of his own on Thursday.

The town hall will be held outdoors in Miami, Florida, where Trump and Democratic candidate Joe Biden were slated to hold a town hall together before the President abruptly announced last week that he would not participate.

“TODAY” anchor Savannah Guthrie will be the moderator of Trump’s town hall, which is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.  EST — exactly when Biden’s session will begin in Philadelphia on ABC News.

According to NBC News, Dr. Clifford Lane, Clinical Director at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), released a statement asserting that both he and Dr. Anthony Fauci believed “with a high degree of confidence” that Trump “not shedding infectious virus.”

The President and Biden were originally going to have a debate on Thursday, then the Commission on Presidential Debates (CPD) announced that the debate would be a virtual town hall instead due to health concerns regarding Trump’s COVID-19 diagnosis.

Trump pulled out of the event in response, stating that the new format was “not acceptable to us.” The CPD eventually cancelled the debate altogether.

I don’t think there is a Thursday Night Football this week. I think it’s a victim of the COVID rescheduling.

NBC’s move here is disturbing yet unsurprising – but this is why Biden should have stuck to the original event despite Trump’s chickening out. His switching to an ABC-only event was perhaps a mistake.

Still, it may all work out, especially if he now wins the obvious ratings contest.
