Eagle-eyed White House TV crews spotted President Donald Trump talking excitedly with Attorney General William Barr and White House Counsel Pat Cipollone in the Oval Office Thursday evening when he should have been leaving for Louisiana.
Per CNN, they were discussing Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz’s probe of the beginning of the Russia investigation, which is expected to finish soon.
Horowitz started investigating in 2018, centering his probe on FISA warrants the FBI obtained to electronically eavesdrop on Trump campaign aide Carter Page. Since the warrants cite the Steele dossier, which contains some unverified claims about the President, Trump and his acolytes have seized on the episode as “proof” that the Russia investigation was politically motivated.
Barr said Wednesday that the final report from the investigation is “imminent,” heaping up praise on the IG.
I suppose once the IG report is released Trump will have to tweet out that Putin was maligned and is a very good man.
This will be the big distraction from Articles of Impeachment.
At least it’s not a war.
But it’ll be bad, because it’s Barr serving Trump and unified, perpetual Republican power.
The media has got to report it as the farce it is and not give it any credibility at all. Report the truth about it - not both “sides” to the issue, not “the president’s critics say.” There are facts and there is fantasy. Report it as such.
Is Barr’s praise because he discovered that Cipollone did break the law, or not? It honestly could go either way.
Let’s see if they have roped more into their crazy world.
Everyday, in every way, moving us towards nuttier and nuttier they are.
There they are…the little co-conspirators trying to cook up something to provide a counter narrative to the impeachment inquiry. Not sure dredging up the Russia probe in the current environment will play as well for them as it did the last time.
