Speaking shortly after a deadly shooting at a Pittsburgh synagogue, President Trump on Saturday said that if the house of worship had armed guards, “the results would have been far better.”

Asked whether gun laws should be tightened in the wake of the shooting, Trump said: “If they had protection inside the results would have been far better. This is a dispute that will always exist I suspect. But if they had some kind of a protection inside the temple maybe it could have been a very much different situation. They didn’t, and he was able to do things that unfortunately he shouldn’t have been able to do.”

At least eight people were killed in the shooting at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh, according to reports. Three officers were shot and a suspect is in custody.

Trump said he would speak about the shooting further at an event later Saturday.
