President Trump and his family sued Deutsche Bank and Capital One on Monday to block House Democrats subpoenas demanding access documents related to Trump’s finances, according to multiple new reports.
The Trump family lawyers claim the subpoenas are just a means to “harass” Trump and his family and cause him “political damage,” the suit says.
“The subpoenas were issued to harass President Donald J. Trump, to rummage through every aspect of his personal finances, his businesses, and the private information of the President and his family, and to ferret about for any material that might be used to cause him political damage,” the lawsuit said, according to Politico. “No grounds exist to establish any purpose other than a political one.”
House Democrats are interested in Trump’s financial records as part of their probe into how his business empire has influenced political decisions. Deutsche Bank — which has in the past been accused of money-laundering — said in a statement that it still intends to comply with congressional probes, according to Politico.
House Democratic leaders on the House Financial Services Committee and the House Intelligence Committee said a joint statement on Monday that the suit was “meritless” and was filed to force a delay in accountability.
“As a private businessman, Trump routinely used his well-known litigiousness and the threat of lawsuits to intimidate others, but he will find that Congress will not be deterred from carrying out its constitutional responsibilities,” Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) and Adam Schiff (D-CA) said in the joint statement.
They must be afraid of proving their innocence. Anything to protect people from the shock of discovering their self-professed lily-white reputations are true. Such a selfless family. Amirite?

If you don’t like to be “harassed”, you shouldn’t have harassed politics in the first place. FFS separate your family from politics.
Those are not private info when your family members keep messing with politics.
IANAL, but I don’t think the suits themselves put a halt to banks complying with House subpoenas, do they? I don’t read anywhere Trumpco requested a restraining order pending a request to a judge to order a halt of compliance. So, if and when that stage is reached will a judge intercede on behalf of Trump, and in opposition to House oversight?
So awesome to know that if you don’t want to comply with a subpoena all you have to do is to claim that it’s politically motivated or that it is intended to harass you. This must be what they mean by making America great.
