President Donald Trump lamented Thursday that Republican midterm momentum was stopped due to the fact that nobody was talking about the election in the light of the attempted pipe bombings and the fatal shooting at the Pittsburgh synagogue.

“We did have some stop the momentum that was incredible because for seven days nobody talked about the election to stop the momentum,” he said at a campaign rally in Missouri. “More importantly, we have to take care of our people, and we don’t care about momentum when it comes to a disgrace that happened to the country, but it did nevertheless stop a certain momentum but now that momentum is picking up.”
