In his rush to insist that external conservative voices do not shape his policy, President Donald Trump unloaded on Ann Coulter, saying she’s “off the reservation” and that he “hardly” knows her.

“Ann Coulter, I hardly know her,” Trump said to reporters assembled in the Rose Garden. “The press loved saying Ann Coulter. She is probably really nice. I just don’t have the time to speak to her.”

Coulter has been widely credited with pushing Trump to shut down the government by predicting a devastating loss in the 2020 election if he didn’t build the wall. She has continued a steady stream of criticism — including bashing the omnibus funding bill — on Twitter, but Trump has likely not seen it as he unfollowed her in a fit of pique.

Trump also spent minutes waxing lyrical about Fox News host Sean Hannity and right-wing radio stalwart Rush Limbaugh before insisting that the conservative figures don’t shape White House policy.

“Sean Hannity has been a terrific, terrific supporter of what I do, not of me,” Trump said. “If I change my views he wouldn’t be with me.”

“Rush Limbaugh — I think is a great guy,” Trump continued. “He says he can speak for three hours without a phone call. He has one of the biggest audiences in the history of the world. This guy is unbelievable.”

As an afterthought, he added: “They don’t decide policy.”
