U.S. Surgeon General Jerome Adams will appear in court via Zoom on Wednesday after receiving a citation for illegally entering a park in Hawaii that had been closed due to COVID-19.
Law enforcement handed Adams the citation on August 23 after he was spotted walking around and taking photos in Kualoa Regional Park in violation of Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell’s emergency orders on park shutdowns.
The health official stated he was unaware of the restriction and described the incident as an “unfortunate situation” at the time.
“I was out trying to be physically active, which is something that I encourage people to do,” he said, according to local Fox and CW news station KHON2.
Those who violate the order face up to a year in prison and/or fines up to $5,000.
The hearing is slated for 2:30 PM ET.
Really, $5000 or prison. Seems excessive no matter who.
Walking while black?
Rules for Thee but Not for Me.
Surely the closure was posted???
Trump filled out his quota of black people giving them irrelevant and easy to ignore offices, this guy as Surgeon General has been a joke , not even at the table for the pandemic decisions. Same with keep forgetting about him HUD secretary.
