Montana Gov. Steve Bullock (D) became the 22nd Democratic candidate in the race Tuesday, announcing his bid in a video called “Fair Shot.”
He opens up the ad by talking about corrupt politicians in Montana’s past, then transitioning into Citizens United, the landmark campaign finance Supreme Court case.
At that point, he leans into his trump card.
“As a Democratic governor in a state that Trump won by 20 points, I don’t have the luxury of just talking to people that agree with me. I go all across our state’s 147,000 square miles looking for common ground to get things done,” he said.
“Look, to be honest, I never thought I’d be running for president. I was raised by a single mom and we struggled just to get by. I only knew there was a governor’s house in town because i delivered newspapers to it. Now my wife Lisa and I are raising our kids in that same house,” he continued.
“We need to defeat Donald Trump in 2020 and defeat the corrupt system that lets campaign money drown out the people’s voice so we can finally make good on the promise of a fair shot for everyone,” he concludes to a crescendo of violins.

I get that some governors don’t want to run for senate because the environment in the Senate is toxic or because they’re not comfortable being in the legislative branch. But FFS can’t they sit out the presidential election? Can’t see anything special about him.
