FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) — A shooting at a Florida nightclub early Monday morning killed two people and wounded at least 16, police said. The attack apparently occurred at a teen party, billed as a “Swimsuit Glow Party,” at Club Blu in Fort Myers, according to local media.
Police detained three people and said the area around the club had been deemed safe, police Capt. Jim Mulligan said in a statement.
It was not immediately clear what triggered the violence.
Four people remained hospitalized Monday morning, including two in the intensive care unit, Cherly Garn, a spokeswoman for Lee Memorial Health System, said in an e-mail. All others were treated and released. A shooting victim brought to Cape Coral Hospital was also treated and released, Garn said.
Ages of the patients ranged from 12 to 27, Garn said.
The shooting comes more than a month after a nightclub shooting in Orlando that was the deadliest shooting in modern U.S. history. The shooting at the Pulse nightclub on June 12 left 49 victims dead and 53 others wounded.
The violence at Club Blu erupted about 12:30 a.m. Monday, Mulligan said. There were two active crime scenes, police said. Several hours later a street in the area remained closed as police investigated.
The area was later deemed safe, but Mulligan said a street was still closed as authorities investigated.
In a statement, authorities said the Fort Myers police and the Lee County Sheriff’s Office were “actively canvassing the area looking for other persons who may be involved in this incident.”
The names of the victims were not immediately available.

Republicans will blame President Obama by saying that it’s his rhetoric and anti gun stance why this happened. You know, like he’s responsible for ISIS and police officers shot.
Meanwhile, Donald Trump probably wont say a word about this shouting because it doesn’t fit his narrative, and you know and even worse, it seems the majority of the club goers are blacks. So, it’s another ‘thugs’ incident.
Here is the club’s Facebook response which is in the article from the local paper that Jw1 put up the link for.
We are deeply sorry for all involved. We tried to give the teens WHAT WE THOUGHT WAS A SAFE PLACE TO HAVE A GOOD TIME. Ages 12-17. There was armed security as well as full security, inside and out. As the club was closing and parents were picking their children up…that’s when all this took place. There was nothing more we could of done az you see it was not kids at the party that did this despicable act. Our condolences to all parties involved.
At least the gun nuts won’t be able to claim that if only someone at the club had been armed this wouldn’t have happened. Not only were there armed people there they were paid security.
The NRA (National Rifle Association) reported today, that an event at a Florida nightclub interrupted a shooting. NRA spokesperson Cal I. Burr stated that “Nightclub control legislation could have prevented this incident. There needs to be some limitations placed on the amount of nightclubs, and their size, in this country.”
But while Mr. Burr’s intentions were most honorable, a spokesperson for the powerful and unscrupulous NRA (Nightclub Rights Association), Vic Timms countered with the accusation that, “Americans will not stand for the overreaching dictator-like liberal government trying to take away their nightclub rights.”
Nightclub supporters would like to see an ‘open nightclub’ policy everywhere, Conversely, supporters of firearms would like to see ‘no nightclub’ zones established everywhere.
On the serious side, I am sorry to hear about the shootings … as always.
