Sen. Kamala Harris(D-CA) speaks during a hearing of the Senate Judiciary Committee on the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to the US Supreme Court September 4, 2018 in Washington, DC. - President Donald Trump's newest Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh is expected to face punishing questioning from Democrats this week over his endorsement of presidential immunity and his opposition to abortion. Some two dozen witnesses are lined up to argue for and against confirming Kavanaugh, who could swing the nine-member high court decidedly in conservatives' favor for years to come. Democrats have mobilized heavily to prevent his approval. (Photo by Brendan Smialowski / AFP) (Photo credit should read BRENDAN SMIALOWSKI/AFP/Getty Images) MORE LESS

Six Senate Democrats filed a lawsuit against the National Archives and Records Administration on Monday to obtain records from Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh’s time working for the Bush administration, according to a Buzzfeed News report.

Sens. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), Patrick Leahy (D-VT), Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), Mazie Hirono (D-HI), Cory Booker (D-NJ), and Kamala Harris (D-CA) are requesting immediate court action to get the documents as soon as possible.

According to Buzzfeed News, the lawsuit addresses three requests Democrats made on August 8 to the National Archives and its subsection of the Bush Library, and the CIA.

The Democrats want records from Kavanaugh’s time in the Bush administration when he served as assistant to the President and staff secretary, roles that Senate Judiciary Committee chairman Chuck Grassley declined to request records from, saying they are not relevant to Kavanaugh’s “legal thinking.”

Hopefully this goes to a judge who will NOT slow walk this suit. They now have until next Monday… maybe it’s possible to get the documents released

  3. Where the hell is the ranking Democrat on the SJC? Why isn’t DiFi participating in this?

Also, I thought Shrubya pulled executive privilege on those document, thereby consigning them to a black hole for the next who-knows-how-many years.

  4. What with digital data being what it is, the National Archives should be able to get this material out very quickly.

This won’t change how republicans vote unless there’s something in there that changes the optics sufficiently. What crimes was Kavanaugh associated with during that period, other than torture?
