Save the date, readers. The premiere of Tea Party: The Documentary Film, the official grassroots/FreedomWorks-sponsored take on the grassroots/FreedomWorks-sponsored movement, is slated for Dec. 2 at the Reagan Building in Washington, D.C. The premiere is also sponsored by FreedomWorks.

We first wrote about the documentary while the crew was busy preparing to film Rep. Michele Bachmann’s (R-MN) rally against health care reform at the Capitol. Presumably, this footage has been added to what was first showcased in the dramatically narrated (and quite thrilling) trailer.

“This is a political thriller and an inspiring American story that is at the heart of the times we are living in as a nation. It will challenge you as few stories can,” screenwriter Joel Aaron Foster said in a listing for the film. A recent press release describes the doc serving another purpose: to defend the movement from its detractors, controversies and, well, terrorists.

The film directly addresses controversies surrounding the movement including allegations of racism, political partisanship, key issues like healthcare and spending, direct acts of terrorism leveled against some groups, debates over crowd size and whether the movement is truly grassroots driven or funded by large special interests.

There’s also a “sneak peak” webcast next week featuring the likes of Dick Armey, FreedomWorks President Matt Kibbe, producer Luke Livingston and RedState‘s Erick Erickson.

Early bird tickets for the premiere are available here.
