House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) said Tuesday night that “tomorrow will be a new day in America” after Democrats won back control of the House of Representatives.
Taking the stage at a watch party hosted by House Democrats’ campaign arm, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, Pelosi said the victory was about more than “Democrats and Republicans.”
“It’s about restoring the Constitution’s checks and balances to the Trump administration,” she said. “It’s about stopping the GOP and [Senate Majority Leader] Mitch McConnell’s assault on Medicare, Medicaid, the Affordable Care Act and the healthcare of 130 million Americans living with pre-existing medical conditions.”
She added, to slightly confused applause: “Let’s hear it more for pre-existing medical conditions.”
“It’s about ending wealthy special interests’ free reign over Washington,” Pelosi continued. “But more than anything, it about what a new Democratic majority will mean in the lives of hardworking Americans.”
