In a call with members of her caucus on Monday evening, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi encouraged her colleagues to pump the breaks on talk of impeachment, Politico reported.

“We can investigate Trump without drafting articles,” she said, according to sources on the call who spoke to Politico. “We aren’t going to go faster, we are going to go as fast as the facts take us.”

In a letter to House Democrats on Monday, she also reminded her colleagues that the “facts regarding holding the President accountable can be gained outside of impeachment hearings,” according to Politico.

As some within the caucus reignite talks of impeachment, Pelosi and other Democratic leaders like House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD) and Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) have extinguished any knee-jerk impeachment talks, likely because of the political consequences of drafting articles.
