MIAMI, FL - SEPTEMBER 21: University of Miami pediatrician Judith L. Schaechter, M.D. (L) gives an HPV vaccination to a 13-year-old girl in her office at the Miller School of Medicine on September 21, 2011 in Miami, Florida. The vaccine for human papillomavirus, or HPV, is given to prevent a sexually transmitted infection that can cause cancer. Recently the issue of the vaccination came up during the Republican race for president when Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) called the vaccine to prevent cervical cancer "dangerous" and said that it may cause mental retardation, but expert opinion in the medical field contradicts her claim. Texas Gov. Rick Perry, also a presidential contender, has taken heat from some within his party for presiding over a vaccination program in his home state. Oregon’s Republican Party railed against “forced vaccines” from its official Twitter account on Monday evening.

“Oregon Democrats were just joking about ‘my body, my choice’ while rammimg [sic] forced injections down every Oregon parent’s throat,” the account tweeted.

The tweet references HB 3063, an Oregon state House bill that would get rid of non-medical exemptions to vaccinating schoolchildren.

Oddly enough, one of the chief sponsors of the bill, Rep. Cheri Helt, is a Republican.

“This was a priority for me this session,” Helt told the Statesman Journal. “It is to make sure that we’re going to protect our student’s safety.”

Thanks to a growing population of people who refuse to vaccinate themselves or their children, this year saw the worst measles outbreak in 25 years.

The party has not responded to TPM’s requests for comment.

Since GOPers have opppsite position to Dems on both abortion and vaccination, wouldn’t it also make them seem self-contradicting?
