Presidential hopeful and Marine veteran Seth Moulton (D-MA) confessed Tuesday that he underwent treatment for PTSD after his tours in Iraq, and is accordingly unveiling a military mental health plan as part of his platform.
According to Politico, Moulton’s admission marks the first time in the modern era that a candidate from a major party has publicly spoken about receiving mental health treatment.
“I just want people to know they’re not alone,” Moulton said. “Just because other presidents haven’t talked about this openly doesn’t mean that presidents haven’t dealt with these issues in the past.”
His plan involves mandatory mental health checkups, a counseling session upon soldiers’ reentry into civilian life and annual physicals.
“Moulton’s admission marks the first time in the modern era that a candidate from a major party has publicly spoken about receiving mental health treatment.”
Well, Trump didn’t speak about it but he’s shown that he had mental health problems and even worse, he was not receiving treatment.
‘…marks the first time in the modern era that a candidate from a major party has publicly spoken about receiving mental health treatment.’ I guess 1972 isn’t considered the modern era…Thomas Eagleton?
If he starts to get any traction with this, what are the chances that Trump makes fun of him for it?
The answer is self-evident.
Trump might try but if he does I hope he is prepared to deal with all the vets, male and female, running for office who nail him on this bone spurs fraud. I hope Mayor Pete’s accusations grow legs in the upcoming months and trump is forced to publicly and repeatedly address the cowardly way he avoided the draft.
