Rep. Mark Meadows (R-NC) reflected on his fight and reconciliation with Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) Thursday night, telling Fox News’ Laura Ingraham that “fortunately for me, I know I’m not a racist.”

“Listen, we’re all about being civil,” Meadows said. “I just felt compelled to go down and offer a hand of friendship and say: listen, if there was anything that I did that personally offended you, it didn’t come from my heart.”

“She hugged me, and certainly we looked at moving forward,” he added.

Ingraham cheered Meadows for being the “bigger man.”

Tlaib and Meadows got in a nasty back and forth during Michael Cohen’s hearing Wednesday when Tlaib accused Meadows of bringing along black HUD official Lynne Patton as a prop to contradict Cohen’s statements about President Donald Trump’s racism. Meadows bristled at the accusation and said that Tlaib’s implication was racist, citing the black people in his life.

Chairman Elijah Cummings (D-MD) eventually put a stop to the bickering.

Videos surfaced after the fight of Meadows espousing the “birther” theory about former President Barack Obama a few years back. Meadows’ office has still not responded to a request for comment.

Being a racist isn’t so much a matter of what idle thoughts pass through your mind as it is what actions they move you to take. How is your record of voting on issues regarding race, Rep. Meadows? (Note: being a passionately conservative Republican is a very bad starting point.)

  3. fortunately for me, I know I’m not a racist

Fortunately for me, I know you are an asshole.

  4. He probably also knows that he isn’t an imbecile.

  5. Funny how the NC GOP managed to turn the NC 11 seat from a blue dog Democrat to the most reactionary member of Congress with a little old fashioned gerrymandering.
