House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), scrambling to redeem himself after momentarily recognizing President Donald Trump as the instigator of the bloody Capitol siege earlier in January, met with the former president Thursday at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida.

A statement released by Trump’s Save America PAC described the meeting as “very good and cordial.”

“They discussed many topics, number one of which was taking back the House in 2022,” the PAC said before bizarrely boasting about Trump’s “popularity,” which “has never been stronger than it is today, and his endorsement means more than perhaps any endorsement at any time.”

Plans for McCarthy’s visit followed reports that Trump and his loyalists in the GOP were furious with the House minority leader for admitting that the former president “bears responsibility” for the violent insurrection by a mob of MAGA supporters.

McCarthy then watered down his initial remarks by claiming that “everybody across the country” was responsible.
