Jon Stewart On Obama’s Libya Speech: Meh (VIDEO)

Jon Stewart was not impressed with President Obama’s speech explaining the U.S. involvement in Libya.

On the Daily Show last night, Stewart thoroughly panned the address for coming over a week after the campaign began, and for not adequately clarifying why the U.S. got involved in the first place. But first, Stewart took issue with the stern tone Obama led the speech off with.

“What are you annoyed at us for?” Stewart asked “We just wanted to know why we were bombing people.”

Stewart was unmoved by the argument that we had to intervene because, as Obama said in the speech, Muammar Qaddafi threatened to massacre the civilians in a city the size of Charlotte.

“I have to ask. Is there a massacre of a city the size of Charlotte that is in our national interest?” Stewart asked. “And is it Charlotte?”

Stewart was also incredulous about how the campaign would move forward. Obama declared that the U.S. would step back as NATO took control of the mission this week, but Stewart noted that the U.S. is the biggest player in NATO.

“That’s like Beyonce saying she’s ceding control to Sasha Fierce,” Stewart said, naming Beyonce’s fictional alter ego.
