CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) — Jury selection is set to begin in the trial of an Ohio man accused of killing a woman during a white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, last year.

James Alex Fields Jr., of Maumee, Ohio, is charged with first-degree murder in the death of 32-year-old Heather Heyer. Fields is accused of driving his car into a crowd of people protesting the white nationalists. Heyer was killed and dozens of others were injured.

Fields’ trial is scheduled to begin Monday in Charlottesville Circuit Court.

The “Unite the Right” rally on Aug. 12, 2017, was organized in part to protest the planned removal of a statue of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee. The event drew hundreds of white nationalists.

The 21-year-old Fields was described by a former teacher as an admirer of Adolf Hitler.

The event drew hundreds of white nationalists.

    Many of them ‘good people’

  2. Unless they’re planning some sort of insanity defense, what defense attorney in his right mind would let this go to trial? This is the situation in which you explain to your client that a jury will bury him, and that almost any plea deal offered by the prosecution is going to be the better choice.

  3. When I look at these ubiquitous pictures of these baby-faced Nazis, I see humanity and I think this is some virulent disease that we don’t have the right name for yet.

  4. Maybe we could have a public hanging for this guy, and reserve a front row seat for Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith. Or does she only attend the hangings of black people?

Still waiting for the DOJ to beg SCOTUS to intervene in this case. If they don’t act fast, evidence could be entered into the record!
