While pro-impeachment Democrats are trying to rally their peers to the cause, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) is fretting that the American public doesn’t realize that impeachment does not guarantee President Donald Trump’s ouster from office.

According to the Daily Beast, some members of her caucus are trying to build up a significant enough mass of support that she’ll have to come to team impeachment or risk being out of step with the party.

Pelosi’s holiday in her home state, meanwhile, did little to assuage her fears about the merits of beginning the process. Per the Beast, Pelosi found that even well educated people did not understand that impeachment does not guarantee Trump’s removal from the presidency.

The House can vote to bring articles of impeachment, but the Senate (currently Republican-led) must ultimately vote by a two-thirds majority to convict the President of the charges and remove him from office. That has never happened in American history.

  1. JFC, come on, Nancy. If you want the public to be less ignorant about the need for impeachment, HOLD LIVE TELEVISED HEARINGS.

Hearings are what educate people. Must-see TV brought down Nixon; must-see TV will bring down the Pumpkin Traitor.

  2. Pelosi, stop being disingenuous. You can open an impeachment inquiry without ever pulling the trigger on impeachment, you know this better than anyone else.

  3. I would go with Laurence Tribe on this. He is for Impeachment. He is aware of Pelosi’s concerns. What we have to do is educate the public on the benefits of the Impeachment Process, most of which nearly all of us here know very well.

    So does Tribe.

  4. “Per the Beast, Pelosi found that even well educated people did not understand that impeachment does not guarantee Trump’s removal from the presidency.”

So sad. But that’s also why Reps are so important. They know better about their constituents.

  5. Waiting until the American public is no longer ignorant is a brilliant and practical plan!

If for some reason that fails, I say we go with impeachment inquiries featuring lots of pictures of adorable kittens.
