Now that the holiday is over, impeachment-hungry Democrats are back on Capitol Hill — and feeling the pressure to sway House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) to their cause before the 2020 elections suck all the air out of the room.

According to a Politico report, Democrats foresee more White House stonewalling on witnesses they want before cameras: former communications director Hope Hicks and former White House lawyer Annie Donaldson. This stymies their plan to put the Mueller report on television in an easily understandable format to sway public opinion on impeachment.

“It’s about whether Democrats — the Judiciary Committee, specifically — can exploit this moment and Mueller’s statements to ignite a national conversation about the extent of President Trump’s abuse of power and ways to hold him accountable,” a House Democrat aide told Politico. “The true test of that is going to be in June. If you can’t do that with what he gave us, there’s no way you’re ready for impeachment.”

  1. If you asked Democrats to bake a cake they’d request 6 months to review which oven to buy before even getting started.

  2. Gee, POLITICO is in full rethug mode today.
“Dems hope Pelosi’s resistance to impeachment will crack in June”
    Seriously? Know your REAL enemies!

  3. Trump is, himself, working mightily to help Democrats toward Impeachment…certainly toward an Impeachment Inquiry.

In fact, he’s the best person on our team…

  4. There will be no impeachment or even many more hearings. It will be too close to the election to risk losing the votes of the economically anxious.

    (Yes, that was snark.)

  5. “But Democrats eager to launch impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump fear they’re running out of time to persuade Pelosi to change course before presidential politics consumes Washington.”

If these Dems really only care about “doing the right thing” and despise political calculus, why do they fear about the competition with presidential election? Don’t ya think it’s a bit hypocritical?
