Incumbent Rep. Karen Handel (R-GA) officially conceded Thursday morning, making first-time candidate Lucy McBath the congresswoman-elect for Georgia’s 6th District.
“After carefully reviewing all of the election results data, it is clear that I came up a bit short on Tuesday,” Handel wrote in a lengthy Facebook post. “Congratulations to Representative-Elect Lucy McBath and I send her only good thoughts and much prayer for the journey that lies ahead for her.”
McBath’s victory is an upset, after Handel defeated Democratic candidate Jon Ossoff in a closely watched special election in 2017.
McBath got into politics because her teenage black son was shot and killed in 2012 by a white man angered by the volume of his music.

If you have spent anytime in the Atlanta suburbs where McBath won, you realize how amazing this victory is. It gives me hope for our state, and country.
She’s my congress critter now!!! Yeah bay-beeeeeeeeeeeee! Donated more than a couple drachmas to her cause.
Karen Handel needed the job.
Lucy wanted the job.
BEEG difference!
I am very jazzed about her win.
Another Trump disciple bites the dust.
Last summer my daughter and family moved from a N. Gwinnett suburb to a N. Fulton one. Their neighborhood has lots of transplants, mostly professionals, who’ve come from Eastern European countries. There were always lots more Abrams yard signs than Kemp ones. We forget that there are lots of people who are aghast at this President and at Kemp’s anti-democratic and clearly unethical antics. I don’t believe the 6th has ever voted a Democrat into office until now.
Congrats to McBath, who I don’t know, but IIRC Karen Handel was the person, who cut the ties between the Susan Komen Foundation and Planned Parenthood. Good riddance to her.
