HOUSTON (AP) — Former President George W. Bush is assuring top donors to his brother’s presidential campaign that Jeb Bush will be a “fierce competitor” in the 2016 race for the White House.

The former president argued Monday that his brother’s experience as Florida’s governor will ultimately win over voters.

The two men appeared together at an event in Houston for roughly 175 of Jeb Bush’s most loyal donors, where the older brother called his younger brother and former Florida governor “a proven” leader.

Says George W. Bush of his brother, “He knows how to manage an administration. I happen to believe eventually the American people will say, ‘Who has the experience necessary to be president?'”
