Sens. Jeff Flake (R-AZ) and Chris Coons (D-DE) agreed during an interview with “60 Minutes” on Sunday that if an FBI investigation into allegations of sexual assault against Brett Kavanaugh found that the Supreme Court nominee lied to the Judiciary Committee, he would no longer be considered for the position.

“Oh yes,” Flake said when asked hypothetically if Kavanaugh’s nomination “would be over” if the probe reveals he lied.

“I would think so,” Coons said.

Coons and Flake worked together on Friday to come to an agreement following a tumultuous Senate Judiciary Committee meeting. Flake had previously indicated he would support Kavanaugh’s nomination, but, after being confronted by protesters and listening to Democrats’ calls for an investigation, he decided to shift positions and asked the committee to request the White House order a week-long probe into the allegations.

The White House requested the probe, but the scope will reportedly be narrow.

  1. Nonsense. They wanted him to lie. To borrow a Trumpian figure of speech, he could shoot one of the committee on the Capital steps and the GOP would vote to confirm him.

  2. Just so we’re clear, Flake is saying that if Kavanaugh lied about sexually assaulting Dr. Ford he won’t support him in the floor vote.

All the other stuff, large and small, that Kavanaugh lied about during his appearances before the Senate Judiciary Committee are just fine. And don’t even talk about the fact that BK is an entitled prick with anger management issues.

  3. Wake me when Flake confirms specifically how he is assuring the FBI has free reign to question whomever they need to document Kav’s lies. Or releases the original order to the FBI so we’ll all know what we’re up against…

Until then I’m just gonna hit snooze on this, after filing his statement under wishful thinking, or blatant deception. Always torn between those two.

  4. File a cc: under wishful thinking. Blatant deception is GOP stock-in-trade. You might want to add one to the Self Deceptions folder while you’re at it. Jeffy appears to be really good at that.
