The White House has already reached out to Dina Powell, a Goldman Sachs executive and President Trump’s former national security adviser, about replacing Nikki Haley as ambassador to the United Nations after she exits at the end of the year, Politico reported.
According to people familiar with the matter who spoke to Politico, Powell asked the White House for some time to consider the job offer. While she’s said to be interested in the new gig, Powell has young kids and left the Trump administration partially because she wanted to spend more time with her family.
Trump indicated on Tuesday that Powell was one of the people he “would consider” for the position. Other possible contenders include Richard Grenell, the U.S. ambassador to Germany and Kelly Craft, the ambassador to Canada.
