Today in slow news days, “the best political news team on television” took on this pressing question: Is Warren Buffett’s tax “compromise” good or just plain politics?
Never mind that Buffett is not, in fact, a politician, CNN devoted its “talkback” segment to this pressing issue. Buffett, the mega-rich CEO of Berkshire Hathaway, in a New York Times op-ed on Monday called on Congress to raise his taxes and those of his super-rich friends.
Sounds like something a super-rich guy should be able to say, right? But Republicans aren’t buying it, CNN’s Carol Costello reports. So is Buffett’s plea “just plain old politics?”
“Now that we’ve had a day to digest Buffett’s plea to ‘tax me more,’ it’s time to ask that very question,” Costello said. “Buffett is largely a Twitter hero. But as far as Republicans are concerned, he’s a shill for President Obama.”
Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) tweeted that Buffett should just make a personal donation to the U.S. Treasury.
So which of these simple, shallow columns does it fit in? “Good” or “politics”? As another popular news network would say, “we report, you decide.”
