Rep. Chris Collins (R-NY) said he’d “want to see where the court case stands” before deciding on a reelection bid, referring to his indictment on insider trading charges.
“There was a trial date set for February,” he said, according to the Daily News. “I’m not sure whether that’s going to be adhered to or not.”
“There’s some things up in the air. We’ll have to see where that stands, what the timing of that is,” he added. “At some point, you sit down with your family and say, ‘Do I want to stay in the public’s eye and do this again or not?’”
Collins was indicted in August on charges that he used insider information about a biotech company to trade stocks.
Shorter Collins: I’ll run if I’m not in jail.
I guess we’ll see if he’s a man of convictions.
Yep, and the sad part isn’t whether or not he decides to run. It’s that he’d probably still win.
Before everyone gets excited bashing him, I have to remind people (sadly) that Dems have Bob Menendez who used to be in a similar situation.
Implied Collins: I’ll let the clock run out (again), so that it will be too late to get another repub on the ballot, and everyone begs me to run, regardless of the court case.
