South Bend, Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg was heckled multiple times at a campaign event Tuesday night by anti-gay protesters yelling “remember Sodom and Gomorrah!”
His fans reacted by starting up a rousing cheer of “Pete, Pete, Pete!” drowning out their voices.
Buttigieg himself then addressed the hecklers. “You know, the good news is, the condition of my soul is in the hands of God, but the Iowa caucuses are up to you,” he quipped, pointing to his crowd.
“Remember the beauty of our democracy,” he added later, as the protesters interrupted his comments about the legalizing of gay marriage. “Everyone here gets the exact same voice and vote.”
Sodom and Gomorrah are cities mentioned in the Bible and other holy texts that God razed due to the sinful behavior of their inhabitants. The story is often cited by biblical literalists as proof of God’s displeasure with homosexuality.

This is what happens when you have a biblical PPresident…
Very solid, strong response. Well done, Mayor Pete.
I guess you mean our devoted compassionate PPresident, who is the “biblical” prez.
Biblical literalists are full of shit. The fable was about hospitality and rape–not gay sex.
Sounds like goD was describing the hecklers.
