First lady Melania Trump flat-out rejected aides’ requests to do a joint TV appearance with her husband to help mitigate the damage after the Access Hollywood tapes leaked during the 2016 election, according to Bob Woodward’s White House memoir, “Fear.”

As reported by the Guardian, the now-first lady was dismissive of the idea saying, “Not doing that. No way. No, no, no.”

Back during the campaign, Melania Trump did sign off on a statement.

“The words my husband used are unacceptable and offensive to me,” she said soon after the tapes were released. “This does not represent the man that I know. He has the heart and mind of a leader. I hope people will accept his apology, as I have, and focus on the important issues facing our nation and the world.”
