DECATUR, Ga. (AP) — Authorities say a former law enforcement officer fatally shot his ex-wife and wounded a sheriff and deputy at a home in northeastern Georgia.
Russell Andrews with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation says 41-year-old Anthony Giaquinta killed 40-year-old Kathy Giaquinta Smith at the home in Clarkesville.
A friend of Smith, 45-year-old Steven Thomas Singleton, was found dead outside the home, and authorities believe Giaquinta shot him as well.
Andrews says Giaquinta was found dead in the back yard of the home, and it is believed he was fatally wounded when he exchanged gunfire with a sheriff’s deputy who responded to a 911 call of domestic violence at the home.
Andrews says Giaquinta also shot and wounded Habersham County Sheriff Joey Terrell and Deputy Bill Zigan.
Giaquinta was a former police officer and sheriff’s deputy.
