GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip (AP) — A Palestinian official says Israeli shelling has killed at least 27 Palestinians in southern Gaza as an Israel-Hamas truce unraveled less hours after coming into effect.

Health Ministry official Ashraf al-Kidra told The Associated Press that more than 100 Palestinians were wounded as a result of the Israeli shelling on Friday in and around the town of Rafah.

The three-day cease-fire, announced by the U.S. and the U.N. hours earlier, took effect at 8:00 a.m. (0500 GMT) Friday after heavy fighting that killed 17 Palestinians and five Israeli soldiers.

The Israeli military says Gaza militants have fired eight rockets and mortars at Israel since the cease-fire began, one of which was intercepted.

  1. Four and a half hours. That’s how long it lasted.

BBC News is shouting about how an Israeli soldier “may have been abducted” by Hamas. If that’s true, I’m afraid that soldier is dead. Either way, Israel now has a reason – or, at the very least, an excuse – to go far beyond closing the tunnels.

  2. Wait a minute.

This all started because 3 Israelis were kidnapped. Israel blamed Hamas and used it to attack Gaza.

Only later we found out that abduction wasn’t committed by Hamas. Israel knew it.

  3. Why does the AP hate Israel and want it wiped off the map completely?

  4. Why is Israel wiping the Palestinians off the map if they are ostensibly attacking Hamas?
