Friends no more: Yahoo has filed a suit against its former business partner Facebook in San Jose, California, according to court documents obtained by All Things D. Yahoo is specifically suing Facebook over infringement of 10 Web patents, which Yahoo says “are the foundation of our business that engages over 700 million monthly unique visitors.” That 700 million number Yahoo cites appears to be thrown in there to contrast with Facebook’s 800 million monthly users. The patents cover everything from social networking to messaging to advertising, acccoring to the New York Times. The move was widely expected and is the first major action of Yahoo’s new CEO, Scott Thompson, since his appointment in January.
