“The Nightly Show” host Larry Wilmore on Tuesday celebrated Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) announcing his run for president as a “gift from the comedy gods.”
“I mean Cruz is a guy that even fellow Republican John McCain called a ‘whacko bird,'” Wilmore began.
The host took the occasion to launch his coverage of the 2016 race, which he titled “Blacklash 2016: The Unblackening.”
“It is time for America to say ‘fuck you’ to the notion that once you go black you never go back,” he said.
Wilmore pointed out with a wink that Cruz chose to announce his run at Liberry University.
“And by the way, there’s no better place to start the unblackening of the presidency than at a university in Lynchburg, Virginia,” he said, as the audience groaned.

To be fair, the city was named for someone’s surname, not a KKK practice.
But it is interesting that he chose Jerry Falwell’s degree mill to make his announcement.
It’s even more interesting that the students were forced to attend it, and that some wore Rand Paul t-shirts.
Uh, the “Lynch-burg” joke was a joke. Also, lynching wasn’t a practice restricted to the KKK per se.
Uh, you mean to say you couldn’t tell that I knew it was intended as a pun?
