On the eve of the first Republican presidential debate, “The Nightly Show” proved Wednesday that real estate mogul Donald Trump’s brand of “cray-cray” has officially infected the entire GOP field as they try to steal oxygen from the party’s frontrunner.
“While Donald Trump have a monopoly on America’s interests (and the riches of the Monopoly Man), he does not have a monopoly on crazy,” host Larry Wilmore said. “His cray-cray seems to be affecting all the other candidates. Have you noticed that? They seem to be upping their cray-cray just to get some attention. Show us what I mean, formerly thought to have been the craziest candidate Ted Cruz.”
He showed a clip from Sen. Ted Cruz’s (R) “machine gun” bacon video. (FYI: It’s not a machine gun.)
But it’s not only Cruz going crazy.
Wilmore also pointed out how New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie threatened to punch the national teachers union and publicly detailed his birth control choices. But what’s upsetting voters is Christie’s hug with President Barack Obama after Hurricane Sandy.
“These people don’t forgive Chris Christie for hugging the President. During a national crisis,” Wilmore said. “What are people worried about, he’ll catch black if he gets too close? I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Black is 100 percent non-communicable.”

[Insert bad ebonics joke here]
For some reason, all the Wilmore videos embedded in TPM stories are “unavailable,” at least to me. Anyone else having that issue?
Yup. But, they’re available on Comedy Central’s site.
All the GOP candidates must up their “cray cray” not because Trump is successful at it, but because Trump’s success reflects the center of the GOP voting bloc, which is now somewhere to the right of Attila the Hun.
