The deficit reduction measures in President Obama’s new budget are the same that the president offered House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) in December when the two were trying to work out a deal to avert the fiscal cliff, White House adviser Dan Pfeiffer said on “Fox News Sunday.”
“We have taken the final — the last offer we gave to Speaker Boehner before he walked away from the fiscal negotiations in December and put it in the budget, one, to show that the president’s serious about addressing our deficits and our economy in a comprehensive way. But also to show that there’s a false choice between deficits as far as the eye can see and job creation and economic growth now. You can do both. That’s what the president’s budget does.”
President Obama made the same point during his weekly address Saturday.
